A Record for You.

I learned guitar for four years, but now I can only play two chords. My guitar teacher actually told me I was "too white" to play guitar (his words) & that I should go and join a folk band.

If I'd been better I would know more music by now and I would write you a song consisting of more than a flat melody and bad lyrics, signifying nothing. My chord progressions would embarrass no one. I'd play and play and play. I'd play 'til I had to stop because everyone had fallen asleep, including me.

I'd make a record for you, maybe I'd make more than one copy so other people could hear it too. But I'd inscribe your name inside so it would always be yours, signed, sealed and delivered. Maybe you'd like it and I like to think you would. I'd probably write it more in the style of the music you like than the music I like so that you'd like it more. All of my music would be true and good if I was true and good and could play more than two chords.

Maybe I could form a band and we could perform your record to crowds. I'd have to find a singer, bass player and a drummer. I couldn't be the singer beause I don't have enough charisma and my range is too small. Maybe being good at guitar would give me more charisma; maybe being shy would make me enigmatic, but I doubt it. Maybe sometimes we could use other instruments, like a cello or a viola or both together.

Our record would be called "The 3rd Chord" and would make full use of musical theory.

We definitely wouldn't be a folk band.
